PRESS RELEASE Legislature Conducts Earth Day Clean-up at Co. Office Bldg. Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature joined with volunteers to conduct a clean-up around the County Office Building in downtown Troy on April 26, to commemorate Earth Day. The clean-up effort at the County Office Building helped remove trash and debris from parking areas, sidewalks and areas of Sixth Avenue near the building. “We were happy to get together and spruce up the area around the County Office Building. This is visited by many residents, so a clean-up here is a great way to participate in the Earth Day activities,” said Legislator Laura Bauer, a member of the Legislature’s Environmental Committee. The clean-up was part of a number of community clean-ups held around Troy and Rensselaer County in observance of Earth Day. The Legislature has held community clean-ups to observe the environmental holiday for more than a decade. The clean-up around the County Office Building was one of a number of environmental projects held by the Legislature in recent weeks. On March 29, the Legislature and the county Environmental Management Council joined with eLot to stage an electronics recycling day which attracted more than 350 vehicles. On April 19, the Legislature held the annual clean-up at the Papscanee Island Nature Preserve. The Preserve is owned by the Open Space Institute and managed by the Legislature and EMC. During April, the Legislature is also conducting tree plantings at various locations throughout the county. “Rensselaer County is one of the most beautiful places in upstate New York and we are proud of our work to protect our environment. From community clean-ups to recycling to managing the Preserve, we place a real priority on protecting our natural resources,” said Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher.
