Legislators Seek Improvements to Co. Rt. 51 Bridge

Rensselaer County Legislators Alex Shannon and Martin Reid said today they have requested the county engineer to improve the bridge carrying Route 51 over Burden Lake.

The bridge on what is also known as Burden Lake Road has deteriorated somewhat from years of use and Shannon and Reid said they want to ensure safe and convenient travel by motorists and pedestrians.

Shannon recently visited the area around the bridge to speak with residents regarding the condition of the bridge.

“This is an important county route and travel increases during the spring and summer months. There has been some deterioration to the bridge and there is definitely a need for improvement,” said Shannon.

Shannon and Reid said they have received indications the improvement work will be done as early this summer. The two legislators wrote to the county engineer asking for the bridge improvement to receive attention during 2008.

“We appreciate any attention the county engineer can give to the bridge, and will keep residents updated when we learn more,” said Reid.
