PRESS RELEASE Legislature Commends Castleton Public Library for Award The Rensselaer County Legislature commended the Castleton Public Library at the April 8 legislative meeting for receiving first runner-up for the Best Small Library in America Award, Legislators Alex Shannon and Martin Reid announced. The Castleton Public Library won first runner-up for the award which is sponsored by Library Journal and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The award is created to showcase the exemplary work of libraries serving populations of under 25,000. “This is an important award and recognizes the great and valuable work done by the Castleton Public Library for the residents of the village. We join in congratulating the staff and patrons of the library,” said Shannon. The Castleton Public Library has been a fixture in the small community on the Hudson River. The library has been located in the Village Hall for the past 75 years and recently celebrated its 99th anniversary. The library is directed by Darlene Miller, who runs the library with 11 part-time employees. Miller has worked hard in seeking grant funding to support the small library. “For generations, the Castleton Public Library has been there for the people of Castleton. We thank them for their outstanding service and wish them well for the future,” said Reid.
