Legislature Recognizes Jake Broderick on Firefighting Award

The Rensselaer County Legislature commended Jake Broderick of Brunswick at the April 8 legislative meeting for receiving the Firefighter of the Year Award from the Eagle Mills Fire Department.

Jake won the 2007 Firefighter of the Year award despite being only a senior at Tamarac High School. Jake is the first to serve with the department as a junior firefighter, a program designed to encourage 16 and 17 year olds.

Following his graduation from Tamarac High School, Jake plans on attending Hudson Valley Community College to study business and construction technology. Jake has also worked on the dairy farm operated by Legislator Ken Herrington and his brother, Brunswick Supervisor Phil Herrington.

Ken Herrington recounted how Jake became interested in farm equipment at an early age and learned how to operate the large pieces of equipment by observing the operators. Herrington praised Jake as a conscientious and hard-working young man.

“Jake is an outstanding young adult who is very dedicated to his work and his community. He has shown that he is a person of commitment and real talent and he has a bright future,” said Herrington.

“There are many talented young people in Rensselaer County and Jake is an example of the bright future we have here. We congratulate Jake and wish him all the best in his coming endeavors,” said Vice Chairman of the Legislature Thomas Walsh Sr.
