PRESS RELEASE Legislature Remembers Senator Bruno’s Wife Bobbie The Rensselaer County Legislature joined at the April 8 legislative meeting to mourn the passing of State Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno’s wife Bobbie, with Senator Bruno and members of his family in attendance. A native of Glens Falls, Bonnie Bruno died January 7 after 57 years of marriage to Senator Bruno. Senator Bruno spoke movingly to legislators and a packed gallery in the legislative chambers about his decades with his wife and her dedication to the family. She was particularly dedicated to charities for children and as an advocate for the Humane Society animal shelter. When the couple met in 1947, Bobbie’s affluent family discouraged her from continuing to see the young Joe Bruno, who also hailed from Glens Falls. But she can became an active and effective partner as Joe Bruno’s career took him to the heights of state government. “Bobbie Bruno was a great woman who did so much for her community. She was very dedicated to her family, and really was someone who preferred to do her good works out of the public eye,” said Chairman of the Legislature Neil J. Kelleher. “We join Senator Bruno’s many friends across New York State in mourning the passing of Bobbie Bruno. Bobbie was a rock for the Bruno family and she will truly be missed,” said Majority Leader Robert Mirch. Along with Senator Bruno, his son former District Attorney Ken Bruno was also in attendance at the meeting along with other family members.
