Brownell and Goodermote Mourn Passing of Coach Baker

Rensselaer County Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote mourned the passing of Coach Ken Baker, who was a popular coach and faculty member for years in Hoosick Falls before building Cambridge into a high school football powerhouse.

Baker passed away Wednesday after playing basketball near his winter home in Aiken, South Carolina.

At the Hoosick Falls Central School District, Baker coached football, baseball and wrestling along with serving as a physical education instructor. Brownell said Baker was a demanding coach who got results from his players.

“He wanted us to do our best. He demanded respect, but gave respect as well,” said Brownell.

“Coach Baker was a big influence on me, and a big influence on so many others in the Hoosick area. We mourn his passing, but know that so many will be carrying on his lessons for years to come,” added Brownell.

Legislator Lester Goodermote, who operates two businesses in Hoosick, said Baker was well-known and a friend to many in the rural community.

“Coach Baker was a great guy and always a real positive influence on the Hoosick Falls Central School District community. He helped shaped many young lives and get our kids headed in a positive direction,” said Goodermote.
