Report
Peregrine falcons nest on every major bridge between New York City and Albany.
The 2008 state peregrine falcon report documents the presence of 67 territorial
pairs of state endangered peregrine falcons, of which slightly more than half
were recorded in upstate New York.

SCHODACK
— A Town Hall-style meeting for Rensselaer County residents will be held later
this month regarding air quality issues at the Lafarge cement plant located
across the Hudson River.
County
legislators announced the meeting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. March 24 at the
Castleton Ambulance headquarters, at Brookview (Route 150) and Maple Hill roads
in Schodack.

Large retail stores required to recycle plastic bags

Gov.
David Paterson signed legislation over the weekend that institutes the policy.
The new law takes effect Jan. 1, 2008 and applies to stores that:
•
have more than 10,000 square feet of space;
•
are chains with more than five stores in the state, each having more than 5,000
square feet of space;
•
have at least 50,000 square feet of space in a mall.
