A local business consultant, Brian Zweig took office on January 1, 2006. This is his first term in public office. Since joining the legislature, he has focused on the following issues of importance to his constituents:
· Shared services to cut the cost of county government: Zweig has
supported cooperation between the County Sewer District and the East Greenbush
Sewer District to reduce operating and capital costs for taxpayers. · Improved Quality of Life: Zweig has championed better planning and the I-90 connector project in North Greenbush to encourage smart growth in the County. He secured funding to develop a County trails network and also to conduct a feasibility study for a rail-trail in East Greenbush.
· Support for Local Businesses: Zweig has worked with the East Greenbush Business Alliance to strengthen businesses on Columbia Turnpike and Route 4 in East Greenbush.
· Support for Schools: Zweig has led efforts to offer Chinese language instruction in Rensselaer County high schools and encouraged shared services to reduce the cost of transporting students. Zweig currently serves on the boards of the Rensselaer County Farmers’ Market and the Rensselaer County Soil and Water Conservation District. Zweig is the founder and principal of Business Opportunities Management Consulting, a firm that provides business planning and marketing assistance to growing companies in the region. He has also been involved in many community and business organizations in the area. Zweig is a founding partner of the Tech Valley Angel Network, which helps finance growing companies in the region. He is also on the board of the Global Business Network of the Capital Region and is a member of the Rensselaer and Albany-Colonie Regional Chambers of Commerce. He previously served on the County’s Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board and is a former President of the Rensselaer-Taconic Land Conservancy, a local land trust that promotes voluntary protection of open space Zweig grew up in Nassau and is a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1976. He received a BS in Applied Economics from Cornell University and a Masters in Business Administration from Dartmouth College. He and his wife Sylke live in North Greenbush. |
