Peter J. Ryan Sr. comes to the Rensselaer County Legislature fresh from two consecutive terms as a member of the Troy City Council representing District 3, serving the Sycaway section of Troy. “I am interested in the issues not the politics, says Ryan. It is the way I have always operated. It is the way I will continue to operate. I am here to carry out the initiatives brought forward during our campaign. The citizens of Troy deserve a legislator who will work with both parties to garner the best and most cost effective programs and policies for Rensselaer County.” Ryan has long been an advocate for the City of Troy and its residents. He professes a deep love for Troy and has been a lifelong resident as were his parents, the late Ed and Kathleen (Kay) Ryan. Peter and his five siblings grew up in Sycaway where he currently resides with his wife, Mary Jane (Moore). Peter and Mary Jane are married 35 years and have four children: Carrie, Courtney, Peter, and Patrick, and six grandchildren, all of whom reside in Rensselaer County. Peter is a graduate of Our Lady of Victory School, Catholic Central High School and Siena College. Peter was instrumental in resurrecting the Our Lady of Victory CYO basketball program and was at the helm as Director for 18 years. He has coached numerous athletes on both basketball and baseball teams across the City of Troy and served as the President of the Troy Branch of the Greater Capital Region YMCA. Ryan recently received the prestigious YMCA Honoree of the Year Award for outstanding service to the YMCA. Peer also is on the steering committee to bring the nationally recognized and highly regarded “Hook A Kid On Golf’ program to serve the youth of the City of Troy., beginning July 2010. Ryan brings years of budgetary, purchasing and contract experience to the Legislature. Peter has been a member of the Superior Business Products of Schenectady’s sales force as a leader in sales for over 15 years. He currently serves as Account Representative. Peter was elected as the Minority Leader of the Rensselaer County Democratic Legislators by his fellow colleagues. He is a member of the Rensselaer County Legislature Contracts and Agreements, Local Government, and Rules and Legislative Operations Committees. To keep an eye on all budget items and to hold true to his campaign promise of fiscal accountability, Ryan also sits in on all meetings of the Budget and Finance Committee. During his term as Rensselaer County Democratic Legislator, Ryan vows to promote shared services and trim the budget whenever and wherever possible. Peter promises “I pledge to do my best and work hard everyday to represent every city resident.” |
