District One - City of Troy

Lou Rosamilia brings positive energy and budgetary insight to his newly elected position as Democratic County Legislator. Lou is honored to serve on the Rensselaer County Legislature and believes that with his professional experience and years of community involvement that he can make a real difference.

“I want to give back to the community that has given my family and me so much support and friendship all of these years. I hope to offer my insights into programs involving our youth, veterans and the elderly, and STOP DWI.”

Lou is well known to many Troy residents. He is a graduate of Sacred Heart School, Catholic Central High School, Hudson Valley Community College, and The University of Albany where he earned a B.S. and M.S.  He began his career as a teacher, coach and Athletic Director at LaSalle Institute.

Lou and his wife, Peg, have been married for 40 years and are lifelong residents of Rensselaer County. Lou and Peg have lived in Troy for 51 years. Troy was also home to their daughter, Stephanie, who passed away in 2007.

Lou is an acclaimed Professor of Accounting in Hudson Valley Community College’s Business Department.  He has received numerous teaching awards and distinctions.  Rosamilia has been the featured speaker at conferences, symposiums and lectures. His expertise is often sought as a contributor and reviewer of accounting textbooks by some of the nation’s top business authors. 

Lou has over 18 years of experience as union representative for the Faculty Association of Hudson Valley Community College and has held leadership positions as Vice-President, Treasurer, and Delegate–At-Large.  Elected by his colleagues, he serves as Deputy Minority Leader of the Legislature.

Lou is a consummate community advocate having served as a fundraiser, volunteer and organizer for various non-profits including but not limited to: parish outreach programs for the homeless and needy, "Adopt An Angel" drive of the "Make a Wish Foundation",  "Light the Night" Leukemia and Lymphoma annual events and  Making Strides for  Breast Cancer.

As your county representative to District One, Lou welcomes any questions, suggestions, and concerns from any of his constituents.
