District Two - Towns of East Greenbush, North Greenbush, Poestenkill 

 
As a member of the East Greenbush Town Board for twelve years, Ginny O’Brien was a driving force for many positive programs including the Parks Task Force, Spotlight on Youth and Project 2000. These initiatives were geared toward the growth and improvement of the Town’s services and programs.

Ginny started her Town’s Parks Task Force in 1990 which has resulted in improved equipment at parks, band concerts, “Saturday in the Park” and the building of a new facility in Hampton Manor, Onderdonk Park. Their “Welcome to East Greenbush” beautification project received the 2001 Community/Neighborhood Beautification Achievement Award by the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Ginny returns to the Rensselaer County Legislature after previously serving from 1993 to 1997 when she instituted the Rensselaer County Youth Court. During this term, she will serve on the Legislature’s Standing Committees on Local Government, Education, Health, Social Services and Rules and Governmental Operations.

 Her focus will be to:

• provide a stable tax base
• generate economic development
• spotlight recreational facilities
• highlight the arts and tourism potential of Rensselaer County

Active in her district, Ginny is Chairperson of the East Greenbush Youth Commission, a Member of the Parks Task Force, a Member of the Board of Directors of the Commission on Economic Opportunity, and has served as President of the Parish Council of St. Michael’s Church.

Sales Manager of the East Greenbush office of Coldwell Banker Prime Properties, Ginny was elected to serve on the Greater Capial Area Realtro Board as a Director.  She is married to Michael O’Brien and they are the parents of two grown children and a granddaughter.

As Legislator, Ginny O'Brien has:

 

- Created the Arts, Culture, County Heritage Committee of the Legislature to focus attention on important area resources

 

- Worked for Rensselaer County's designation as a Preserve America Community

 

Served on the County Tourism Committee


Sponsored legislation calling for an increase in the Minimum Wage

 

Sponsored legislation recognizing the County's libraries during National Library Week

 

- Recognized East Greenbush Spotlight on Youth nominees with certificates
