Flora Fasoldt begins her first term on the Rensselaer County Legislature in 2006. For the past nine years, Fasoldt has served as a Councilwoman on the Town Board in the Town of Sand Lake, frequently taking the lead on policy and financial issues. She is well known for her thoroughly researched positions, responsiveness to community concerns and her independence. Fasoldt has chaired several of Sand Lake’s committees, including the Town’s Future Planning Committee which is responsible for updating the Town’s Comprehensive Master Plan and subsequent Zoning Code. She secured $7,500 in grant funding from the Hudson River Greenway Council for this planning project. Fasoldt initiated town funding for arts and cultural activities within the community. She recently received a grant from the NYS Council on the Arts to fund a special youth program entitled “ArtWorks!”. Fasoldt chaired the Town’s Committee on Arts, Culture and History for Sand Lake. In addition, Fasoldt has also been in charge of the Youth Department for the Town which hosts the Sand Lake Summer Day Camp among other events for youth. She has served on the Library, Animal Control and Insurance Committees for Sand Lake. Communicating with the public is a priority for Fasoldt. She maintained the government access channel on cable TV which broadcasts live Town Board meetings and advertises community events. She writes and publishes a regular column, “For Your Information”, in The Advertiser to communicate local issues and inform her constituents. As a County Legislator, Fasoldt will serve the Towns of Nassau, Sand Lake and Schodack with the same high level of energy and enthusiasm she has displayed as a Town Councilwoman. Fasoldt supports legislative action that calls for open, honest and accountable government that informs the public and encourages participation. She will support efforts to improve county-wide planning that will assist Towns in planning for their future and addressing the challenges of their communities. Flora Fasoldt is a life-long resident of Rensselaer County and has lived in Sand Lake for over 40 years. She is a 1978 graduate of Averill Park High School and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Disorders and a Masters of Science in Education from the College of St. Rose. She has been employed by the Capital Region BOCES for 23 years where she is a speech therapist and reading teacher for children with special needs. She and her husband, Tom Fasoldt, reside in Averill Park with their three children.
