District One - City of Troy

Kathleen Ryan Cassidy, a lifelong resident of Troy, is proud to represent the residents of District 1- City of Troy on the Rensselaer County Legislature.   She is committed to reducing costs, creating efficiencies, and adding “green initiatives” wherever possible in county government.

She is working to propel Troy to prosperity and enhance the quality of life for residents by promoting Troy’s high quality education system, as well as the many economic development opportunities that Troy has to offer. She is a strong advocate of historic preservation and is currently working on a project to highlight homes in Troy designed by prominent turn-of-the-century architect Stanton P. Lee.

The eldest of seven, Cassidy and her six sisters were born and raised in Lansingburgh.  She graduated from Keveny Memorial Academy and Hudson Valley Community College.  She earned a B.S. from the College of St. Rose and an M. S. from Syracuse University.

Cassidy resides on the East Side with her husband, Brian.  They have five children—all educated in the Troy City School District.  Kathleen is a familiar face in Troy, having been involved in numerous Troy School District parent groups and activities for over 20 years.  She has been an active member of the Troy Booster Club and is now serving as Chair of the Troy Educational Pride Foundation.

Cassidy started her career as a Speech- Language Pathologist at the Rensselaer County Health Department and then successfully ran her own private practice for nearly 15 years. She was also formerly employed by the Troy City School District as a Speech-Language Pathologist and is currently the Coordinator of Human Resources in the Ballston Spa Central School District.

Kathleen is a member of the New York Association of School Personnel Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Phi Delta Kappa.  She is a parishioner of Christ Son of Justice Parish.

Cassidy’s fresh perspective, no-nonsense approach, and unwavering determination to achieve real results will be great for the residents of Troy.  She looks forward to working hard to serve and represent you.
